to plant some iris bulbs in my garden? They're blue magic ones, and as you've probably guessed by now - I am a clueless but keen gardener!

blue magic? what are they - snowdrops? tulips? nirene? gladiolus?

duh! sorry - IRIS!!! well, you won't get flowers this year (assuming they are bearded iris) but ifthey are bearded ones with bulbs that look a bit like root ginger then they will get a good sunny bake this year and flower next year.

Are these the little bulbs, for the non-bearded irises? If so, it's a bit late to be planting them - mine are just beginning to flower - but it's worth a go, rather than waste the bulbs. You may find that they flower late and a bit feebly this year but if you give them a good feed they may gain strength and do better next year.

Just googled and I think they probably are (non-bearded, that is).

nothing to lose - just shove them in, they'll either flower, flower next year, or die

Thanks. have put them in anyway. Fingers crossed.
