I purchased two from gardening express last year (which I have since learnt are a hit and miss) I planted one in a pot and one in the ground at the end of Autumn and this is how they look now.

The one in the ground, it's my first year with them so I'm hoping they look similar to others, I did drive past a huge one the other day that looked alot more green than mine.

I think my potted one is a week or two ahead of yours, but everything is definitely perking up with this warm, sunny spell.

I currently have my potted one in the shade, should I move it to a sunnier spot?

I have about 8 in pots, 2 in the ground. Had them about 3 years now. They are still sheltered by my back fence atm but just about to move them back onto the patio as I think the last frosts have gone. I also leave their old flower heads on until now as someone suggested it’s best to leave their last bloom on overwinter. They’re all doing really well with new leaves coming and grown well so fingers crossed.

Budding but mostly brown

I just pruned mine today, it was this one I purchased towards the end of last year which supposedly promises lots of blooms in the first year. My stems are not so thick though so let's see.

My cream one is exactly the same as yours OP, my blue one didn’t flower last year as I overdosed it with colour changer (turned pink when I didn’t want it to) but is looking like it might come back this year

Baconmaple · 03/04/2025 10:21

Mine are less far along than yours

FruitPolos · 03/04/2025 10:22

Mostly brown but I live in Cumbria and my garden often seems a few weeks behind.

Same here. I have a few different types in the beds, and they are all only just budding. I only dead-headed them at the weekend.

Temporaryname158 · 03/04/2025 10:26

Mine are looking about the same as yours OP. Mine are in the garden and come successfully every year with almost zero tending and care so don’t worry at all, they are very hardy!

FatherFrosty · 03/04/2025 10:29

Have you all dead headed yours? I always wait until the last frost has gone as I know I have hibernating creatures in there and it protects them.

SkankingWombat · 03/04/2025 11:06

Mine look the same as yours OP, just with the dead flower heads still on. I'll deadhead over the weekend. We are in a bit of a dip though, so plants are often a week or two behind the same ones a little up the road.
This will be their 3rd year in the ground - they've not bulked up as quickly as I'd hoped!

Keeponkeepigon · 03/04/2025 11:14

They look great! Lots of new leaves, they’re obviously both happy, so i’d leave them where they are.

Mindymomo · 03/04/2025 11:15

I’ve just cut mine down to above the last bud to the ground, mine is about 10 years old and my DH cut it down way too much last year so it didn’t flower, I hope it’s better this year and flowers.

TonTonMacoute · 03/04/2025 12:01

I deadheaded mine this week and they look pretty much like OPs.

FatherFrosty · 03/04/2025 12:11

thanks all. I might do mine later if I get a chance.

op mine will look slightly behind yours when I do. My leaves don’t look as big as yours do yet.
