Splitting dahlias

I got a bit carried away splitting some large(ish) dahlias today in order to pot up before planting out.

never done it before but watched a blog and just split them so that each piece had eyes and at least one tuber.

my concern is whether the cut surface makes the piece of dahlia more disease/damage prone. Was this a silly move?

Have you cut into the fleshy tubers or just the old stems? If you have cut through the flesh, I'd discard those tubers and keep the undamaged ones. But if it's the sole tuber for the eye, you'll have to keep it. I would leave it to callous over before replanting.

Argh! I’ve potted them without curing the cut sides.

But I was careful with the tubers and cut through old stems.
