Hi, I found this growing underneath my hedge earlier.

I’ve put it in a pot but have no idea what it is. Any clues please?

Glossy privet?

Bay, I think.

Looks like viburnum tinus to me, used to be called laurustinus. https://s3.amazonaws.com/YouGarden/Web/500x500/510191_5.jpg

Looks a bit like a ficus or bay to me but I'm not an expert

BeaAndBen · 31/03/2025 22:44

It should be easy to tell if it's a bay by crushing a leaf. If it smells like the herb, there you go.

I wouldn't expect a ficus to be growing in your garden if you're in the UK.

Thanks all of you.
My mum initially thought it was a bay but I’m not so sure now.

I guess just wait and watch. What ever it is it is determined to live. There is no light under my hedge where I found it.
