Have I ruined my pond? Help!

I just filled a pot similar to the below with aquatic compost, planted a lily, added gravel on the top and lowered it into the water of my small pond. The water (previously clear) is now very cloudy with bits of compost floating on the top!! What can I do?

Leave it to settle for a few days. See if it naturally clears again.

Thanks. Should the soil sink to the bottom?

The compost was probably too dry. The best way to add plants to a pond like that is to sink the pond basket halfway into the water first and leave it there a day or so until it gets thoroughy saturated, then lower it in all the way.

It should settle. You could skim the compost off the surface with a net if you want but it should sort itself out.

Thanks - I really hope so 😭

Leave it as is. The filthier it is the more the frogs will like it.

BTW I think this year must be some sort of record for first frogspawn vs. first tadpole.
