Urgent cactus lifesaving!

My dog has just knocked off a cactus I’ve had for ages and it’s snapped its stalk. Do I replant the top? Nurture the bottom part (which has looked dried out for ages)? I’ve popped the top in a bowl (second image) with a touch of water for now.
Any help appreciated!

Well, it isn’t a cactus, but a succulent (there is a difference!). An Aloe, probably a hybrid of Aloe aristata. You can remove all the dried up lower leaves (if not already done so) then set it op top of a pot of very gritty potting mix, and leave for a week, before just dampening the pot - you don’t want it wet. It should sprout roots in a few weeks, when it can be potted up properly (again, in a gritty mix). Once growing well, give it as much light as possible.

The snapped off stalk will probably regenerate too. Peel off the dead leaves and pop it somewhere quiet and sunny and leave it to get on with it.

Oh haha, sorry! It’s a lovely succulent which has been with me for some time so will follow your advice to save her! Thanks
