Tension wire trellis for star jasmine

I want to make a support for star jasmine out of the tension wire on my terrace wall. How far apart should I space the wires, if I want a dense covering? Should I make a grid of vertical and horizontal lines? I have two mature plants in big pots. They have previously been supported on a wooden latttice trellis.

I also have three climbing roses in pots. Is it better to attach a tension wire for them too, or a metal trellis, which would have a smaller grid (does that help?).

Thanks in advance for any advice!

My jasmine is supported by a pretty slight criss cross of tension wire at the bottom (second picture) and an equally slight set of horizontal wires at the top - those are really for my Madame Alfred Carierre rose. As you can see the Jasmine has completely covered the whole wall.

It did take a couple of years to get going. But now it gets a savage trim immediately after flowering to keep it from taking over the whole street.

Thank you, @olderbutwiser . It looks beautiful!
So in your opinion a diagonal pattern is better?
