Moved into a new house in November. Waiting for these two shrubs to spring to life. Any ideas you knowledgeable people!

First one looks like Caryopteris

Second and third are Fig

Not sure about the fourth one!

Totally agree. Thinking that the fourth picture is maybe the same as the first, but first was a close up?

Hedgesfullofbirds · 24/03/2025 23:17

@ZookeeperSE, yes, I wondered about the fourth one being another shot of number one too - it has the look of an unpruned Caryopteris about it...

lingmerth · 25/03/2025 11:53

Sorry yes 1 and 4 photos are the same one. Wanted to show the shape as well as a close up.
Thanks for your answers I shall go and google now!

Agree Caryopteris, Fig, Fig, Caryopteris. Good time to prune the Caryopteris probably a bit late to prune the fig as they bleed.

@AlwaysGardeninghow brutal should I be pruning? It looks lovely as a mini weeping willow shape but all the photos of them in flower look nothing like mine!

I usually go back as far down the stem to leave two or three buds. You could just give it a bit of a trim this year and see what it looks like in flower. You can always be more brutal next year!

Thanks @AlwaysGardening I’ll give it a go tomorrow.
