Anything I can plant in pots now?

Hello Gardeners!

I currently have absolutely no flowers or plants in my garden.

Is there anything I can’t plant in pots now that will flower now? Or is now too early for some and too late for others?

Thank you

The garden centre should still have primulas and pansies. The pansies should keep flowering for a while until your summer bedding can go in at the end of May.

Thank you. I will go for a look. Wish I had thought to put some tulips etc in.

Yes, winter-hardy bedding - things like pansies, primroses, violas - these won't mind a late frost.

You can buy flowering bulbs which will die back in the summer and reappear next spring.

Or look at some of the shrubs just coming into flower - camellias, for example.

Hellebores are looking good now and will keep going till June.

I've just got some pansies from home bargains, they are lovely.

Dianthus - pinks - you can get them in bloom and they last really well if you deadhead them and keep them just a little sheltered.

Garden centres sell pre potted tulips often! Our local B&Q and some independent ones have tulips that are in the shooting up phase ready to be potted, that might be worth a look?

You can buy hyacinths, daffodils, tulips and alliums all potted up and growing, some ready to flower, if you didn't plant bulbs in autumn. Also pansies and primulas.I bought several trays of hyacinths in B&Q at the weekend, all half price, they had loads of all the above potted bulbs at half price.

Loads of options then! Fantastic. Thank you. I’ll Google all of the ones I don’t recognise.

With the potted tulips are people talking about the M&S type decorative pots with a few in or will garden centres have packs of them?

It’s all so overwhelming as a novice gardener but I need to start somewhere.

@Gardeningnewbie25 garden centres will probably have packs of them - mine does in small plastic tubs ready to plant out or in larger outdoor plastic pots to keep on display. I think the one I nabbed has 10 or so tulips in, just getting heads up now 😀
