I have a south facing area of garden that used to have mint growing in a large pot. But it has other trees and hedge in front which have grow over the years and it gets very little sun now.

The mint pot is gone as it was getting leggy and not growing

Im looking for something that will be a small bush type thing ideally. It’s about 1.5m2 space.

Would cat mint grow there? Or lemon thyme)

Any other fragrant herbs to help deter mosquitoes would be great. Needs to be winter hardy and low maintenance.

and not eaten by slugs

Sarcococca is perfect - evergreen, fragrant and is ok in shade

Thyme needs sun - actually I can’t think of a bushy herb that likes shade.
