Apple tree hasn’t done well on sloping clay lawn- would you replace with another apple tree?

Or will we have the same issues?Apple is Red Windsor MM106

Doesn't grow and has tiny apples that have got smaller over time. Like tiny. Discolouration of leaves. It’s never been happy. Was 2 years old when we bought it and that was a couple of years ago. Wondering if the ground gets water logged there. DH says it doesn’t but I’m not sure.Thinking I might try moving it to a pot.

So any ideas of an alternative? Another apple, cherry(guessing no to these two) or crab apple or magnolia

We have heavy clay and put in N ornamental cherry which is thriving, lovely blossom. Less success with a liquidamber?

also have a lovely white magnolia.

Have you cleared away the grass around the tree? Many young trees cannot compete with grass.

Do you thin the apples when they appear? You need to remove half in each cluster, and repeat a few weeks later if they start crowding each other.

Apple trees don't tend to crop well until they are about 5yo, though they should improve year on year.

Yes left a ring which I clear each year. Has always produced loads of apples but got steadily got smaller. Have never thinned. Gets funny browning of leaves but not the whole tree. Wondering if it’s deficient as supposed to be a disease resistant variety.Giving it one more year, will try thinning and some blood fish and bone?(haven’t fertilised it as thought you shouldn’t)

If I move it can’t decide between a cherry or crabapple. Middle of lawn so a bit of a focal point.
