How Do You Clean Your Patio/Paved Area???

The majority of our garden is covered in small, oblong tiles laid out in a herringbone effect. They were once lovely shades of red and browns but now are covered by layers of dirt and areas of moss. I would like to clean them but DH says that if I jet spray them, all the sand between them will go and they will become loose (I was planning on sprinkling new sand on top after cleaning and letting it settle back in)

Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to clean the paving stones? How do you do yours????

I must admit that I was going to suggest a jet spray until I read all of your message. We got one last year and could not believe the difference in the colour of our patio. However, ours is cemented and does not have sand down. Have you thought about contacting the people who put the patio in and asking how to clean it?
