Planning - white on white?

Will I regret it if I plant a Choisya (Mexican Orange Flower?) next to a Philadelphus (Mock Orange)? Will they complement each other or detract from each other?

Any keen gardeners around tonight?

Not sure what a mock orange is but have a Choisya. Do they flower at the same time?
Probably be fine if you plant a different colour flowering plant underneath.
I have a Choisya next but one to a one of those shrubs with white snowball blooms on at this time of year, they don't detract from each other. The shrub in between will flower pink later on.

I think they do flower more-or-less together in the summer, but the Choisya is evergreen, which is why I would like it on that side of the garden.

I wouldn't be too worried about the colour, but wouldn't put them together as they are both scented and I would worry about them competing with each other in that sense.

yes - a bit pointless having them next to each other, although choisya should be a bit earlier than philadelphus. also both a bit samey - green and white and scented - need some other stuff round them for a bit of contrast I would say. You could grow a nice herbaceous clematis over the philadelphus?

PrettyCandles · 13/05/2008 21:05

I could put the Choisya on the other side (Philadelphus already in situ) where I have an evergreen clematis with white flowers, but the flowers are already falling, so wouldn't compete with the choisya.

But I need evergreens on the other side (the one with the philadelphus). I want camelias there, but haven't yet found quite the right ones.
