Ideas for this gravel section please?

Hi, just recently moved into our new home with a bigger garden.

Main section is patio with a shed and some raised borders but then there is this gravel section at the back - what can I do to make it more useable for my DC please?

They love ball sports and it’s difficult to use it for that.

I have seen the click tiles from Ikea etc but not sure how they fair on gravel?

or maybe have it as a table and chairs area with the click tiles as a path??

We don’t have the money to have it removed or cover with turf etc but have around £200 to do something to make it more user friendly 😊

any ideas would be very much appreciated x

If you want grass then you don't have to buy turf; you could grow from seed instead. I'll admit that it's not as quick as turf but it's a lot cheaper.
I wonder if you could bag up the gravel and sell it on FB or Gumtree. That would help towards costs.

It would be nice to think about the design of the whole garden, not just the gravel / lawn. You don't have to do it straightaway but if you have an idea in the back of your head then you can look out for bargains. I think some height (e.g. a tree and/or some climbers) would be nice.

What’s underneath the gravel?

Thanks guys

The gravel seems to be very deep - I’ve tried digging down and haven’t reached any soil or anything else yet!

there is a lot of gravel, the space is bigger than it appears in the photo, so wanted something to cover if I can

I might buy a pack or two of the ikea runnen ones to trial it out 🫣
