SALVIA AMISTAD- ANYONE HAVE ONE?

For the 2nd year in a row mine is not showing any signs of life. I lost one last year even though it's in a SW facing border and sheltered.

The instructions say don't prune until new shoots appear at the roots- is this likely to happen now or has this one died as well?

They aren't fully hardy. I think they do worse if they get their roots too wet over winter so might do worse on clay soil. Don't give up yet but generally ,it is a good plan to take a few cuttings in autumn just in case.

I have to lift it and put it in the greenhouse for it to survive the winter. Even then, touch and go. It’s not hardy.

Thank you! The soil is chalky and dry so it's odd there are no signs of life yet!

Thanks. I will wait a bit longer but don't hold out much hope.

I’m on clay here, but Amistad usually comes back (although I have lost a couple). Far too early to be expecting to see it here yet though, so don’t give up hope.

I've lost a few and I'm south so don't tend to get too much mega cold weather. They are tricky to keep. One year I dug up and had it in the greenhouse so it survived but I didn't do that this year 🙈 so might be a goner.

Thanks all. I bought 2 - pink and purple.

Lost one last year so was hoping for better luck this time.

I had 3. Lovely long flowering period but only one survived over winter the first year. But didn't a survive a second winter.

The gardener strimmed back my salvia the other week (pale pink, but otherwise similar to hot lips). Do we think it'll reappear?
