Big cheesy earth mother

How much do we want to bet that I either kill it, or sod all grows?

We have a pepper plant, sweetcorn, carrots, spinach and tomatoes. Oh and bought strawberry plants but I fully expect slugs to slaughter those

Is there any kind of slug repellent stuff I can use with a toddler who eats random cr*p?

We also planted a "fairy garden kit" out the front - lot of wildish flowers, and you sprinkle the soil with glitter to attract fairies

I'm a tad burnt now

wow! i bet you will get loads, we got an allotment last year and did way better than expected. runaway success was round yellow cucumbers. sadly hardly anyone in our house likes cucumber, we gave away sackloads!

you can get stuff called slug stoppa which is just gravel, they dont like going over rough ground. looks like cat litter so that might work! i have been told sharp sand works in the same way. you just sprinkle it round the base of the plants. if you are using tubs you can use copper tape around the top of the tub, it gives the slug an electric shock so they wont go over it.

love the idea of fairy garden but i only have boys, cant see them being impressed

Oooh an allotment sounds fabulous! We only have very little beds that I have bunged everything in, so am a bit worried about overcrowding.

I was of NappiesGalore's plantin of stuff so got all enthused

vermiculite keeps slugs away. Worked wonders with my lettuce last year. Just sprinkle it around the base of the plants.
Have heard that a garlic spray works well too - but don't know whether it would flavour your veg!
Boil 2 garlic bulbs (crushed) in 2 pints of water for about 3 or 4 minutes. Strain the mixture and top back up to 2 pints. Spray it on your plants. It's supposed to keep around 80% of slugs away. Haven't tried it yet, but am going to!! Good luck.
