I love the bark on these trees and planted one about three years ago. It doesn’t seem to be doing much growing and I wondered if anyone knew much about them for advice.

It is approx 5ft. It’s fairly close to a birch tree (but with space and light) and on clay soil. West facing garden so plenty of sunshine in summer.

This is Prunus serrula? Usually grown for its mahogany coloured shiny bark. My mother had one on clay, by the time the house was sold, 20 years later, its trunk was 6-8 inches diameter.

when you say “fairly close”, what do you mean?
