I don’t mind ads, but I’m damned if I’ll accept tracking cookies, and I can’t afford to pay for things that are only a peripheral part of my life (that guff about only the cost of a cup of coffee would make sense if I had any more cups of coffee to give up)

OP posts:

I don't really know what you're referring to but it's making me laugh that you posted it in the gardening section!

heldinadream · 05/02/2025 10:43

Dammit I'll miss you on the gardening threads. Always a reliable and entertaining source of information, like Mumsnet's own Gardener's Question Time expert.
But I understand. I'm sticking around (but not paying).
Go well, and good gardening. 🌺🌳🌞

If you were familiar with her posts on gardening you'd understand this IS the place to post this. 😂

I'm sorry to hear this. It's unmumsnetty to say but your threads have brought much joy and knowledge to Gardening over the years.

Chuchoter · 05/02/2025 10:48

I'm picturing you flouncing off wearing your garden clogs, watering can in one hand and a copy of David Austin's catalogue under the other arm!

HenriettaMusgrove · 05/02/2025 11:04

Well I for one will miss your knowledge and advice. I'm much more of a lurker than a poster but I love the gardening threads for inspiration and ideas, and you clearly know your stuff! And anyway, if one did have £3 to spare a month or whatever, just think how many plants that could get you instead! 🌱🌱

You need an ad-blocker and a VPN.
Then you can stay!

MN are introducing a "consent (to tracking cookies and ads) or pay" policy. Apparently according to them, those of us with ad blockers and who have refused tracking cookies are "freeloaders". If you go to "Site stuff" all the details are there.

No, they say that they will prevent access to anyone who uses an ad blocker.

I also want to say thank you to MDOP whose gardening advice has always been excellent, as well as occasional appearances on the Archers thread.

BaronessBomburst · 05/02/2025 11:52

Oh, bollocks. I've been using one for years. I might have to find another hobby too then. 😭

Viviennemary · 05/02/2025 11:55

Me to. I thought you must be downsizing and getting rid of your garden!

Benvandal99 · 05/02/2025 12:14

Thought you were terminal !

longtompot · 05/02/2025 12:25

I will miss the excellent advice you give about all things gardening @MereDintofPandiculation 💐

Having just read the link @ArabellaScott posted above, I guess I will be here until they stop me being able to view with an ad blocker.

Words · 05/02/2025 13:01

Don't go ! I have always enjoyed your contributions on the Cockroach cafe thread and also have a tree ID I have been meaning to ask you about!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 05/02/2025 13:23

Apparently you can accept cookies, but then turn them off again in your privacy settings.

It would be a great shame to lose you from the site.

Ilovemytulips · 05/02/2025 14:25

I am a long time lurker too, just getting in to gardening. You are one of the most knowledgeable posters on the gardening forum so I will be very upset to see you go.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 05/02/2025 14:29

Oh dear, as a mostly lurker I will still miss you.

And as recently Mumsnet has been unusable without an Adblocker (all those huge ads that stuck on the page/the perpetual MacAfee scam ad/the big blank page problem) I have no idea how this will all pan out. I'm not bothered about cookies but I won't pay for a site that is basically just a chat forum.

HappyNewFeckingYear · 05/02/2025 14:31

DuckDuckGo now do a browser that will solve the problem.

ThisTicklishFatball · 05/02/2025 14:42

Oh don't go!
Your presence will be very missed as you can already see!

I suggest installing a web browser with integrated blockers or install blockers into your already used web browser.
I use Malwarebytes and Adguard in my web browser. I was never denied access into Mumsnet yet.

Edit: To add that I read the posts above talking about Mumsnet in the future will force people out of the site because they want money to access it. Oh damn it. Isn't it so wrong?

This is Mumsnet’s view of users like you. You will be denied access very soon.

it’s not fair that those who install ad blockers or rejected cookies are piggy backing on the back of other users who haven’t.

Same! You've given me some amazing advice and I am very sad to see you go. Reconsider?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 05/02/2025 15:17

I haven't a single green finger but I lurk on this site too, hoping for gardening skills from you all to somehow vicariously rub off on me.

I hope you don't go but I understand how you feel. I won't be paying for this site either.

Bonbon21 · 05/02/2025 15:49

MDoP!!
Will miss your learned and informative posts!
You have sparked my interest in so many aspects of horticulture.
My best wishes to you.
Thank you.

Yamadori · 05/02/2025 16:48

Don't go, my lovely chum!
