Garden Fence

I have put a 6 foot fence panel on my side of the garden. The next door neighbours garden is 2 foot lower than mine so when he looks up he sees a big fence he has said by law I cannot do this. Can someone please suggest if I’m right I have cut it down to 5.5‘ to make him a bit happier but he’s still not happy.

You are entitled to a 6 ft fence.

It is 6’ from the ground your side - don’t be bullied!

There’s a lot of disagreement on line about this, understandably because the permitted development regulations don’t say anything about it.

Most of the law firms seem to say it’s 2m from the lower side.

I suggest you ring your local council planning officer and ask. It’s their interpretation of the rules which will be important if it comes to a dispute
