Has anyone tried growing tumeric?

I drink tumeric tea - tumeric, black pepper and honey - and would like to try growing my own tuneric (in UK). Anyone tried this with success?

I am pretty sure that you can grow it here as a house plant/ in a greenhouse. I did try but I don't think I looked after it enough.
