Mesh to keep cats from digging

I’ve planted lots of bulbs into a new flowerbed, but the cats keep digging and using it as a litter tray. Can anyone recommend a mesh or similar I could lay over the top? I’ve got cats myself so don’t want deterrent type devices just something to stop them digging the bulbs up! Thank you.

I know that people use chicken wire for this to stop squirrels digging stuff up.

Garden centres usually sell something like that.

Cats don't much like the smell of orange peel so you can scatter bits of that on the ground as well.

I had an old zippy greenhouse that had wire shelves. The greenhouse is long gone, but the shelves are very useful for keeping cats and squirrels off.

I also use lots of short sticks stuck in the ground.
