How long do bulbs last indoors?

I want to buy a lovely vase of hyacinth bulbs but was hoping it would last me until Xmas at least (including flowering), is it possible it'll last that long? Probably not until Christmas if it’s in a warm room. I would wait until beginning of December maybe. They prefer cool conditions such as an enclosed porch, for the longest display.

You can start some bulbs off now for a Christmas display. They need to be kept in a cool dark place for 6 weeks and then bring into the light and warmth in time for the Christmas week. Google forcing hyacinths indoors.

Bulbs last quite a long time indoors if not too hot. Also Xmas cactus are in bud now and will flower for Xmas.

Two of my friends have Christmas cacti in full flower now!
