Identifying hedge

Looking for help identifying one of the species of mixed hedging I planted a couple of years ago.🙂
The green leaves in the foreground.
Vigorous grower, shot up to 6-7ft after just 2-years. Loves the wet, clay soil we have here. Quite a thick trunk, am going to keep it under control but was just curious to know what it is (not Beech or Hornbeam, have lots of that).
Any ideas the gardeners of MN?🤞

Possibly a cob nut plant

Cob or hazel

Hazel sounds more likely as I recall that being listed in the contents.
Cob does not sound familiar but am off to Google it anyway.😆

Thank you.👍

If hazel, the youngest twigs will be slightly downy

Cob is just another name for hazel, and that is indeed what it is. The good news is that it can cope with being cut back really hard.
