Excited to have got mine now.

Got one in a glass vase with clay pebbles but the care instructions do not mention watering. Is that an oversight?

It will lay dormant if all wrapped up until it’s taken out, put in growing medium, watered and exposed to light.
Some bulbs may have even started sprouting in their boxes but they’ll be fine until handled as above when proper growth will begin. This would actually give the recipient a bit of a head start.
Don’t worry, it should be fine!

It’s fine. It manages to survive underground in its native habitat. Keeping its shoulders above soil level isn’t about breathing, it’s to let it feel the hot sun and recognise the seasons.

Is it a new bulb or was it grown before? I struggle to get old bulbs to re flower and am told that it’s likely because the bulb was not nurtured enough to allow it to bloom again.
After flowering this year I’ll keep gently watering until the leaves die back and then store until about summer when I will feed them for a couple of months and then put them away again until November.

It's a new one

The second I posted this not one but 2 flower spikes popped up
Hurrah!
My favourite part of the season is bulbs, have several narcissi and hyacinth bowls hidden away and will bring out next week

Brilliant! Just over a week to Xmas day, if you’re keen for flowers by then it might help speed things up if you place in a very warm place/near a radiator.
Enjoy!

Mine have had a growth spurt over the past few days. Its very exciting for me but exceedingly boring to anyone else, so best i dont post up a photo. Its a bit like your kids, there's nobody who care like you do 🤣

GiantBears · 21/12/2024 22:35

Thank you for reminding me about these. I have bought one too now.

Hope you’ve been enjoying some blooms @daisychain01 !

I only have a couple of flowers left, I think next year I’ll aim for planting some start of Nov and a few a couple of weeks later.

My favourite has been Farmer Gracy’s cherry nymph - big beautiful red blooms and it looks like I’m going to get a third stem!

The papillo has just opened up and is pretty too.

I’ll try hard to get these to bloom again next year!
