I chucked down a load of seeds but I think this is a weed?

Hairy bitter cress

It's a weed in my garden

Entirely down to your perspective - it is either a UK native wildflower or weed. I pull them up in my garden because, whilst I am happy with a natural look, I don't want a garden entirely of hairy bittercress, herb robert, foxes and cubs, willowherb and all their friends which it would be given an inch!

I have an affection for herb robert, mainly because I was a Flower Fairy girl. They're such a dear little flower!

Cardamine hirsuta Hairy Bittercress would grow in abundance on our drive in Spring through to Autumn, if I let it. The seed pods explode, scattering the seeds everywhere so it's best to pull them up before they flower.

Or a salad ingredient.

I don't really mind them as they are so satisfying to pull from gravel.

The evil ones are foxes and cubs. You get one and think 'gosh that is really pretty, I'll leave it be'. Next year it is everywhere and is twined so tight with your favourite and/or spikiest plants it is a pig to remove.

Herb Robert may look pretty, but it stinks.

User100000000000 · 27/10/2024 01:40

Leave it! It will act as green manure over the winter and will enrich your soil 🍃

Completely misread this and thought you'd found 'weed' in your garden...couldn't understand how you'd have planted 'weed' without knowing 😂
