after a couple of years trying for an area of wild garden (failed) ive decided to grass the area, the area has been cleared apart from a bit of wild grass, should i till the area? is it too late to sow grass seed this year? tia

Grass grows when the temperature is about 6 degrees and upwards, so you'd might as well sow some now. What doesn't germinate will help to feed the birds in the winter so win/win. You can then sow some more in the spring to fill in bare patches.

If you don't do anything, you will have a sea of weeds to deal with when it comes to sowing next year, so you won't gain anything by waiting.

There's a small spread of wild grasses from the wildflower packets, worth tilling that over?

I wouldn't bother - just spread seed and rake it in lightly, then keep off the area until early next year.

If they've come from the wildflower packets they will be the same grasses as are used for lawns.

If it were things like Cocksfoot or Yorkshire Fog, tough bullies of grasses with broad leaves, then I would try to get rid of them before sowing finer grasses for a lawn.
