Front garden refresh

I'm spending some time clearing a front garden area. In the past it's mainly been a wildflower and grass mix but the more thuggish types have taken over and I wanted to start afresh.
Newbe gardener so could would welcome any advice!

It's full sun and south facing, the soil seems good, lots of worms, total area is approx 10 meters sq either side of the steps. Oh and it slopes down from the front door.

I thought I might put some wildflower seeds down again but also try to plant up the steps and pavement sides with some others.
Current contenders to add around the sides are some Cransbill Geranium Orkney Cherry, Borago officinalis, Santolina rosmarinifolia 'Lemon Fizz', creeping phlox, Erigeron karvinskianus, Campanula portenschlagiana. Some of the above are available as 9cm pots at the moment, would it give them a head start if I planted now or should I wait till next year?
Any advice or thoughts?

Hi Zippy, how did the planting go?

Did you buy erigeron plants or sow seeds? I've tried to start erigeron seeds twice with no success so far, so I was looking to see if anyone else has had luck with them or not.
