Can’t really see. Scale insect?

user7654263 · 29/09/2024 19:52

Yes looks like scale

Supersimkin7 · 30/09/2024 00:29

Thank you, geniuses. How do I kill it? Sort of crusty white things. Eww.

You can buy a spray but can also apparently to it with washing up liquid. You have to really coat the plant and they loosen their hold do you can scrape them up off. You have to get every single one off though

Does it need to go? I don't actually know what would eat it, but it might get a small bird through the winter?
Euonymus are tough as old boots, I try repeatedly to subdue the ones I've planted with little success.

If nothing's eating your plants, it’s not part of the ecosystem. We need insects. Why the rush to kill them - unless it’s clearly killing the plant.

jennywrites · 30/09/2024 06:30

@ComfortandHappiness I agree but very few will!

user7654263 · 30/09/2024 06:32

scale will kill the plant though

Can rather than will. A healthy plant can withstand anything but a heavy infestation.

Yamadori · 30/09/2024 15:51

That does look like quite a heavy infestation though. Enough to cause damage or let in other nasties.

Depends whether it’s just one branch (in which case I’d cut it off) or whther the whole bush is like that.

I must say, I’ve never seen so many scale insects in one place!
