Egg in compost

Hi everyone I found a complete egg - hens in a bulb container I was changing the compost ..to plant bulbs ..and lo there it was.. I think as there are foxes in the neighbourhood I have seen one leap over the fence into my yard that is the likely explanation. Perplexing as already said.

Do foxes bury things? I've had squirrels bury whole fatballs* in my planters more than once, similar size and weight to an egg, and they do take eggs from nests so that's another potential culprit.

*My neighbour leaves whole fatballs on her lawn for the birds, they quite often get carried off by squirrels.

Our fox buries eggs all over the garden.
When we first moved in and we were not wise to this, and our children coincidentally had bouncy egg toys, I picked up the bouncy egg toy and threw it at DH. Luckily my aim is crap as it was fox’s rotten egg from the flower bed

Ah, it's a thing! I found a very rotten hen's (?) egg buried in a raised bed next to a couple of fresh conkers. Suggests squirrels who are very busy in our garden at the moment.

I’ve found the occasional egg buried in my garden and have foxes.
