Best gravel to deter cats?

Bit of a strange one maybe and totally outing when I say my next door neighbour has 14 cats. Drive me mental, whole other story.

Anyway, we've put in a 10m x 1.5 meter flower bed and reality of the cats is we can't use mulch or wood chippings or they'll think it's a giant litter tray. So I think it's going to have to be gravel. Obviously fine gravel will also be inviting but I think big beach type cobbles will look too clunky. Any ideas of a nice stone that might do the trick?

Motion activated water spray would be better. Cats are very intelligent and will soon learn to stay out of your garden (and not just that flower bed)..

We have an area in our garden that has 4-6mm gravel and our cat absolutely hates it- she’s very careful to only step on the paving slabs set throughout it.
