Magnolia - why black leaves?

I’ve tried everything to care for the dear little Lidl special offer and nothing stops its new leaves turning black.

any thoughts, horticultural healers? Thank you very much if so.

Anyone?

I don't know, but mine did the same, then they grew back. I think they're pretty fussy for the first few years until they get established, and react to anything they don't like by shedding leaves.
