Creating a clover lawn

I have a lot of "lawn" in my garden but, tbh, it is pretty neglected and patchy and parts of it - the parts in full sun - are infested with dandelions.

The part of the lawn that spends a lot of time in light shade has this year been covered in clover, which I find lovely! It's green most of the time and when the flowers are out before mowing the bees are very busy.

So I'm thinking of going clover all over! Can I somehow achieve this without having to dig up the old scabby dandelion patch? Can I sow clover on top and if so when and how? Thanks if you can advise.

I sow white dutch clover in my lawn several times across spring, summer & fall, and after a couple of years it's taken over. The grass is still there to an extent.
