Does anyone else get bitten to pieces through their clothes when doing evening gardening? Just happened to me this evening - 30 minutes and I'm covered! They must have been in a feeding frenzy, and I didn't feel anything till I came in & started to itch 🤬

No! Only on bare skin! Any idea what’s biting you?

Breadcat24 · 03/09/2024 09:35

Yes! I have been bitten this year through clothes when clearing brambles. I was told it was harvest mites- yuck.

Walkacrossthesand · 03/09/2024 16:48

I assumed it was mosquitoes, but there's no open water nearby so I thought it was odd. I'll look up harvest mites - the bit of ground I was working on is quite open, I was just bending down digging up weeds that arrived in some topsoil but that's another rant. Thanks for suggestion!

I bought some insect repellent wipes from home bargains and they seem to help. I just wipe over any bare skin before I start gardening!

Crocodile Powder.
That's what you need .
I wasn't affected on my legs at all, bit of rust maybe but that came off with one of those pan-scrubber things and everything else was tickety-boo.

Walkacrossthesand · 03/09/2024 20:49

@Notgettinganyeasier that's the thing - I was bitten through thickish black gardening trousers! I wouldn't have dreamt of putting insect repellent on before putting trousers on!

@DouglasBader I thought you lost your legs in an air crash, not crocodile attack? Presume the rust was on your prosthetic leg?
