Help for Soil /plant irrigation spikes for a large area

Hi..

Elderly DM' s garden is patio with a lot of boarders with plants and things ....ohhh and lots of things in tubs.

She cannot manage her garden any more .

I can water 1 X week ....but not at the right time !
( During the afternoon as opposed to evening!)

I wanted to get her spikes to put in her soil/pots so that I could just fill them up with water instead of getting the really heavy hose out all the time.

I would of course give it a good water when I can ...with hose...

Are there any recommendations on ones to use ?

She has tubs and soil.

Not sure if I should be looking at different ones.

No grass...all patio.

Thank you from a very un- green fingered person!

Filling the spikes up can be done a bit more regularly than getting hose out .

1 X week would not be the only time they get filled.

How about an irrigation system? You can get ones which connect up to a tap and you can set them to come on on a timer for a couple of hours a day

@Geneticsbunny thank you for replying...
I am still clueless 🤣.

Do you mean put things into the soil and something feeds water through it at certain times ?

Comes from the garden tap I presume ?

That could work for the back garden .

Feed a hose /pipe around the side ?

Think I still need spike things for the front garden .

DM is 85 ...and this is really awfully for her not to manage her garden....

She keeps saying...the garden is dying . ..and so am I 😕

It is absolutely fine to water at any time of day, so I'm not sure why you or your DM is hung up on the afternoon vs evening watering.

I meant something like this :

I imagine it isn't cheap but would totally remove you from having to do the watering. Maybe you could get a tap fitted in the front garden too?

Or you could put a splitter on the back garden tap and run a hosepipe round to the front.

Ah. 😂

Tell her it's an urban myth. Ask her how plants have coped for millions of years just fine, no matter what time of day it rains, or whether the sun comes out afterwards...
