What’s decimated my poor rose?

in about the space of a week my poor rose has been absolutely decimated. In places the leaves have been completely eaten, leaving just a very sorry looking ‘leaf skeleton’. Has anyone any idea what has caused this and what I should do to get rid of the pest that’s been gorging itself? TIA

No sign of the beastie? It looks like the holes are quite neat and circular, so my first thought was leaf cutter bee - I'm not sure they would strip the plant in such a way though!

Another vote for leaf cutter bees.

You're right, good spot but there are only a few leaf-cutter bee half-moons. They go for one of my rose bushes every year but they don't strip leaves like that, so I reckon the culprit is the Very Hungry Caterpillar and all his mates.

I found a tiny green caterpillar on one of my roses - possibly something like that?

Thank you all so much for your replies, @Pootles34 no, no sign of the beastie anywhere. He’s probably collapsed under a nearby plant somewhere, absolutely stuffed after gorging himself! 😂

Rose sawfly? But you’d find them

The rose will be fine.
