Peas

@AlisonDonut Can I double check something you said? I f I remember rightly, you said something on the lines of peas are already pollinated when the flowers open. This would imply that they don’t need pollination to get peas.

I have a big slug problem, so my approach with peas and beans is to leave them in the greenhouse until they start flowering. I have a tub of sugar snaps just coming into flower. Would I be ok to leave them where they are?

Just bumping in the hope that @AlisonDonut will appear. Or anyone else that knows the answer

peas readily self pollinate when the flower is still small - in bud.

Pea plants are naturally self-pollinating. In self-pollination, pollen grains from anthers on one plant are transferred to stigmas of flowers on the same plant.
So you should be ok in the greenhouse providing there is good airflow.
Mind you my sugarsnaps are going berserk this year outside- and slugs have not bothered then- could you put a bottle collar around the base?
Or plant some sacrificial cabbage nearby

I don’t have space for sacrificial anythingGrin

Bit late now for bottle collars - we’re talking a large tub with 4ft high peas. I’m going to leave it inside - can’t be bothered to manoeuvre it out past the cucumbers and Magentaspreen (which is almost as tall as I am).
