Containing growth of an olive tree

I have a small garden with a large olive tree in it. I do love olive trees but it is in completely the wrong place for a tree of it's size. Is there a way I can contain it's growth? I cut it back every spring by about 1m but it just grows so quickly! Thanks.

Is it in the ground or in a pot? You can cut them back reasonably hard I believe, and then continue to prune wayward bits during the summer to keep it in check. Unusual for them to grow so vigorously in the UK though.

It's in the ground. I'll give it a harsh trim in the spring then, thanks.
