Nosy Neighbour

I live in a semi detached house. The neighbour is in his 80s and extremely nosy (and judgmental). He and his wife will stand at their kitchen window staring into our garden over the fence (which is already fairly high), and he actually stood at the fence yesterday looking through the slats to listen when my husband was quietly reprimanding one of my children for misbehaving (I spotted him staring) .

We need more privacy...what can you recommend in terms of trees or bushes we could plant or grow quickly, without spending a fortune, to block their view of our garden??

Motion sensor plant waterer thingy?!

My best advice is to stop caring, bonus is no need for expensive trees etc then.

To be honest I think when we come to sell the house in a few years it would look better if the (cheap) fence was obscured by some trees or bushes anyway - it's a bit of a blank canvas at the moment!
