Hydrangea dying in parts

Does anyone know why my hydrangea is dying stem by stem and what to do about it? Most of it looks pretty healthy, but one stem is wilting/dying. Thank you!

How often are you watering it? They doges very thirsty. All mine really suffered last year but are faring much better with the rain this summer!

As Blarn says - they are extremely thirsty . I would water well and often. They are usually quite good at recovering though so hope yours looks lovely again soon!

If it was lack of water would it just be one stem that’s drooping/dying? The rest looks lush - leaves and flowers! I’ll try more water … Thank you both.

One of mine wilted a lot last year when it got very dry, it didn't recover when I watered it so I cut back the wilted parts and just left the healthy looking bits. It's looking ok this year though not many flowers.

I think they can get too much top for their roots to support.

Thank you @ErrolTheDragon - I’ll try that too. The wilted part looks like one of the oldest stems so maybe it needs rejuvenating 🤷‍♀️

Is it in a raised bed? If so, I'd give it a good dose of vine weevil killer just in case.

It’s not in a raised bed. But maybe worth trying - thank you. I raised it from a cutting so I’ll be sad if it gets eaten from below 😭
