I’ve been given it, but don’t want to plant it unless I know what it is!

It’s rather dark, but it looks like a purple leaved Viburnum opulus. That’s not a definite id though.

Yep, but I can't remember what it's called at the moment... Hopefully it will come back to me...

Yes, that looks like it! And the scientific name says “leaves like opulus” which it definitely has.

You can prune them to size. I saw a bonsai one at a show not all that long ago.😂
