I’ve been given it, but don’t want to plant it unless I know what it is!

It’s rather dark, but it looks like a purple leaved Viburnum opulus. That’s not a definite id though.

Yes, that looks like it! And the scientific name says “leaves like opulus” which it definitely has.

You can prune them to size. I saw a bonsai one at a show not all that long ago.😂
