Irritating slab!

Seems silly to get annoyed about but I HATE the fact this slab is a different colour to the rest....I moved on here last year (bought property) and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? Painting did cross my mind but not sure really....it's in a weird spot that I don't think a plant etc on top would really help. Any ideas much appreciated! Picture added.

Your only options are to source a replacement in a similar material to the rest, and have it laid, or paint.
That drain cover is rather prominent too. Can you not just move the rug to cover both of them?

That would really annoy me. Just get a new slab

Is there one the same size elsewhere on the patio (eg under the rug) that you can replace it with? Or somewhere less prominent where you can replace it with a plant, like a creeping thyme, which you can walk on.

If nothing else is possible, I'd just take it out and replace it with a walkable on plant, but being on the edge it wouldn't look so great. Maybe take out a few more and replace them too?

The patio slabs don't seem to be laid out in a regular pattern, any chance of a photo of the patio overall to give some more ideas?

Probably easier said than done to get a good match.

I'd see if I could swap it as others have suggested

I came on this post expecting to say I'm sure you're over reacting it's just a slab etc but actually yes that would really really annoy me 😂.

Is there a slab you could swap it with in a more inconspicuous location? If not I would be looking for a slab that matched in a reclamation yard or shop.

Well from the picture its just those regular concrete pavers you can get anywhere. Get it worn in and dirtied up a bit and it will look the same as the others.

If your house is one of a set built at the same time, your neighbours will have the same ones. Ask if anyone is replacing their patio and can give you an old slab or two.

Starfish125 · 19/07/2024 07:42

Swapping it with another one under the rug is a good shout! The person we bought the house off had some funny ideas...we have basically had to replace everything but money is tight now. The reason the slabs look like they aren't set out right is because I'm on a corner plot this having a corner garden, the slabs actually look right it's just the colour of this one!

Saying that, I don't think swapping is going to be an easy job

It looks to me like it has been laid upside down? Can you lift it to see what is underneath?

leeverarch · 19/07/2024 15:27

If you have another one the same size in an unobtrusive or easily-hidden part of the patio, then just switch them over.

Or it could be upside-down, as a pp says. Late MIL's patio had been laid with all of the slabs upside-down, which was only discovered when she had a landscaper in to lay a new one. 😂

I really need to get my glasses on. I thought it said irritating slag. I thought it was a neighbour issue. Like the slags are out in force today drinking and laughing loudly. Glad we are talking about slabs! The developers left us with four little irritating slabs which have cracked and are uneven. So I feel your pain.
