Mediterranean Herb Bed

Hi All,

I am looking at creating a raised bed for Mediterranean herbs. It will be around 200x80x24. I am wondering what type of soil mix I would need to use. Ideally not pre-made as that will incur additional cost.

I was thinking along the lines of Topsoil, Compost/Rotted Manure, Course Sand/Perlite in a 1-1-1 ratio.

Does that sound about right.

Not something I really want to get wrong as once its done its done.

I might consider horticultural grit rather than sand, to give better drainage.

Mediterranean herbs generally like poor soil, good drainage & lots of sun - ideally south facing.
Leave out the manure; just do a mix of top soil & grit/sand etc.

I agree - you definitely don't want the manure, just top soil and horticultural grit.
