Clematis Care

Hi,
I'm afraid I'm not very green fingered and end killing more than I keep alive.
We have a clematis which is meaningful as it was my mum's favourite flower.
This year it had come to life was growing well and we're getting flowers on it.
All of a sudden it looks like it's dead and very twiggy!
Can any one give me any guidance please?
I remember growing up we had it growing up a trellis and it seemed to do really well!
Thanks in advance.

Hello Bluestar23,

I would advise starting with the following link

https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/clematis/growing-guide

I would also advise you to identify whether you have a group 1, 2 or 3 clematis which would direct the pruning you would need to do on it. You can find out more about clematis groups via the link.

Mine got ravaged by blackly this year, I wasn’t quick enough to deal with it early on.

Thank you I've had a look and it's a group 3.
I've had a better look at it and removed some dead leaves, deheaded it and gave it some better structure on the trellis.
It looks much better.

Thanks!
