Asda compost

I fell for the cheaper deal and only realised it had peat in it when home.

Then noticed it was mostly very visible wood pulp.

I want to re pot some large indoor plants and some outside ones.

Will it be ok and rot down?

I can use it for mulching if it's not going to be great.

I would get some decent stuff amix it together. It will be fine

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/06/2024 11:06

That’s grim, isn’t it! Do as @NannyGythaOgg says and mix it with something else.

I've bought ASDA compost the last 2 years. I vowed never to buy it again. it is useless as compost! Water goes straight through the woody / straw like consistency.

Hatfullofwillow · 24/06/2024 11:17

I've done the same, not asda though, it goes dry very, very quickly, horrible stuff.

RosaBaby2 · 24/06/2024 11:23

My sweet peas have grown fine in it this year but yeah it's absolutely awful I'd never get it again either!

ExhaustedGoose · 24/06/2024 11:24

I buy this to mix into my homemade compost to make it stretch further, but I wouldn't use it as standalone compost

ErrolTheDragon · 24/06/2024 12:45

That doesn't look like compost.Confused
I suppose it might be a useful mulch, I can't imagine slugs would like it much.

pinkpostitnote · 24/06/2024 13:59

Argh.

As I thought; had hoped everyone would say "oh it's actually really good stuff!"

Thanks all

Are you sure it does? I thought it didn't contain peat, and that was the reason so many are shite nowadays? It looks like the 3 for £12 bags I got some asda too. Also full of wood pulp!
I bought a bag of manure from B&Q, and add some of that with the asda stuff. They also sell indoor plant soil, but depends if its for succulents, orchids or other plants.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/06/2024 14:33

If that does contain peat, it's only in homeopathic quantities from the look of it. Honestly if you CBA it might be worth returning it - that just isn't fit for sale as compost.

pinkpostitnote · 24/06/2024 14:38

I admit I didn't read all of it but I still feel it's not very good bar mixing into other stuff or as a mulch

I think the wrong bag was used at the factory and it's actually a mulch. Either return to the store or email them with your pictures. That ain't peat! (Or compost).

ErrolTheDragon · 24/06/2024 14:53

Calling woodchip 'grow plus' does not make this 'professional compost'. 'Enhanced' my arse.ConfusedHmm

downwithmaterialistdogma · 24/06/2024 21:44

That's diabolical. Even the Lidl cheap compost I use for the cat to poop in is better than that.

pinkpostitnote · 24/06/2024 22:20

Certainly "homeopathic levels of peat" 😂

It identifies as compost.

But is not.

Ooh thanks for the heads up
