Arch or not?

I have two raised beds with about 4 feet from edge bed to fence. I was contemplating having one oblisk in each for climbers and peas, but there isn't much height in the garden so then thought about an arch. I have two arches in the garden already which helps separate the sections into rooms so thought if I have an arch over beds might be to many in one garden? The cosmos I have in here gets pretty tall, if I had an arch here I would have a honeysuckle over It something evergreen probably

Thanks

Arch or not?

What about a living willow arch instead of a metal or wood one?

That would be high maintenance and use up a lot of the nutrients in the raised beds.

I think you need to think about how an arch will shade the beds. I would stick with the obelisks which I think would give you more flexibility.

I think an arch invited you to pass through it into a different area and one there would lead into a dead end (also the shade issue pp mentioned). Stuck with obelisks for height and structure in this area.

Did you use a stain to get your fencing that colour? I really like it.

Hi @WildCherryBlossom yes it's ronseal dark oak!

@WildCherryBlossom yes I thought this to 😆 might look rather odd, I have seen some willow oblisks I might look into.

Thank you, I'll check out that Ronseal colour. I have a similar fence but old and in need of a revamp. This is inspiring!

Ok! You definitely need height and structure, something to draw the eye. What's the rest of the garden like?

I always think zones and journeys when planning a garden.

Where is my eye drawn? Is there something nice to look at?
