Fig tree

It looks as if something has been attacking my fig tree, muntjac deer are a possibility but some of the branches are much too high for that. It's otherwise covered in leaves and looks very healthy. Any ideas?

Apart from a bigger deer? How high up is the damage?

The highest damaged branch is over 6ft up, in the middle of the tree. I would have expected to see some snapped branches as well or other damage from a muntjac.

Is that actual damage or just a branch that has died back? It doesn’t look terribly alive to me

I have several branches like this, healthy leaves all over and then damaged ends.

So have I. I don’t think it’s animal damage. I just cut back the dead wood
