What tall plant would work well by front door?

Hi all, I'm looking for a tree/shrub that would work well in a largish pot next to my front door. It can't have much spread, though, as the pathway isn't very wide and I don't want it to grow over the walkway (our front door is down the side of the house!). So, I'm thinking something that's quite conical/columnar, like Bamboo....

Any thoughts??

I think Bay trees look nice in pots. or Olive.

Bay trees are really nice

We have shaped box plants in terracotta pots either side of our front door.

Similar to these but taller and conical rather than round. Easy to maintain too as they've needed minimal pruning so far

Bay trees are meant to bring fortune into a house

I am going to plant a hedge of them Hard Knock.

The Mexican Orange thing is having the opposite effect

Good idea! I would get one but I can't afford it! ha ha ha

Hey thanks everyone. I could do with some good fortune, so that might be a good option. Saw some Photinia shrubs as standard trees today and they looked good too, so may look at those.

loveverona, how about conical topiary hedge rows, like this, perhaps in a more contemporary pot
