Is the grass like plant in the fist picture worth keeping? I am adding a pink Nemesia plant to it to help it look better, should I take the grass like plant out and add more of the pink flower?
Picture 2 I have no idea where to start with this , any tips?

I would empty both pots. They're not very big so the grass plant is going to take over very soon. Maybe split the Ivy - tease it out at the roots and divide between the pots. Put some fresh compost in - you can mix old and new if you want to be economical, just check for vine weevil grubs. Then put the grass back if you want. Nemesia grows quickly in the right conditions and will soon fill the space.

The second pot looks quite overgrown and possibly has at least one weed plant there? I'm not sure what's in there as it's a bit blurred but if you separate all the plants you will get a better idea of what's worth keeping / putting back.

It depends on whether you can stretch to buying a couple of new plants. A small English lavender would look nice and is perennial, ditto purple Salvia. There also are a few bargains around now with annuals as nurseries, garden centres will want to shift stock.

The thing with pots is to keep trying new ideas or make your existing plants happier by dividing them, giving them new compost, feeding them etc. Pots are a fairly controlled environment so you can make quite a difference fairly quickly just mixing up old and new.

The second one looks like it is full of herbs to me.

It’s not a grass, I don’t think. I think it’s a sedge. Good for a bit of filling out for winter pots.

There’s a willowherb in the centre of the second pot. Flower to leaf ratio not good enough for a pot.

Thanks for the replies.
I took the sedge out of pot one and trimmed the ivy and put some Nemesia in. I think it looks ok.

So far I have taken the willowherb and a baby sycamore tree and some daffodils (that didnt flower this year) out of pot 2
