What is wrong with our grape vine?

Hi,

I wondered if anybody might know what is wrong with our grape vine?

Most of it is fine but about one third of it at the end has gone all wringly and the leaves haven't expanded properly. I'm a botanist, so I know a bunch about plant stuff, but I'm not expert on grapes, also I am home schooling and frazzled. I thought it might be quicker to phone a friend than to dig out the books.

Hello ThankYouAgainAgain,

From your two pictures can I make out a white powdery coating on the leaves which can indicate powdery mildew. However I don’t think the severely distorted leaves in your second picture would be caused by this. Is your vine outside? The other thought is that the distortion could be caused by some form of chemical damage e.g. weed killer spray drift from a neighbour’s garden.

Happy gardening

Hi,

Thanks for the tips. I will go and have a close look tomorrow.

I don't think it could be weed killer, and I haven't seen powdery mildew on the affected part. I will have a closer look though.
