Cherry laurel control

We have a huge tree which I think is a cherry laurel. If I get someone to lop 6ft off the top is that a problem?! It’s significantly impacting our neighbour and I’m struggling to maintain it

No, it’ll just grow with renewed vigour from wherever you cut it. If it is a cherry laurel, you could cut it down to 6 inches and it would re-shoot. Suggest you cut it down to about 2ft lower than you want it, then it’ll bush out at the top and hide the cut trunk.

That’s fab thanks so much!

Definitely cut it shorter than you want. It will probably still grow about 4 feet this year so you'll need to think of it as an annual cost🙁

How tall is it and what is the impact? Loss of light? Branches growing over? Leaves shedding and dropping in their garden? Roots growing through into their garden? Knocking a fence over? All or some or something else?
